Jewel's Catch One, 4067 W. Pico Blvd., Retro Room, 1st floor (west of Crenshaw)

Grassroots supporters are helping the Courage Campaign (www.couragecampaign.org) build "County Equality Teams" to change the conversation about what constitutes marriage in California, working door-to-door, neighbor-to-neighbor, in all 58 counties.

This Sunday, April 5, a grassroots volunteer, Derrick Mathis, is organizing a Courage Campaign Equality Team kick-off meeting in West Adams/South Los Angeles. (You might recall that Derrick participated in WAHA's 2007 Living History Tour at Angelus Rosedale Cemetery, portraying the actor Ernest "Bubbles" Whitman). You are invited to join Derrick and come together with supporters of marriage equality in the West Adams community to build local infrastructure and form the West Adams/South Los Angeles Equality Team. Participants will engage in some important long-term work-recruiting an army of volunteers, identifying undecided voters, organizing in this area, and taking part in coordinated statewide events.

4). DOWNTOWN ART WALK

Thursday, April 9 (Second Thursday of every month) 12 to 9 p.m.

The Downtown Art Walk is a free, self-guided tour (with map) of the many art exhibition venues in Downtown Los Angeles -- commercial art galleries, museums, and nonprofit arts venues.

The Downtown Art Walk began in September 2004 and has grown enormously since, with many thousands of people attending every month. Participants in the Downtown Art Walk are the more than 40 galleries and museums located throughout the central downtown area, within the walkable districts between Grand Avenue/Disney Hall/MOCA, Little Tokyo, the Financial District, and centered around Gallery Row on Main and Spring Streets in the Historic Core. Most venues are open at least 12-9 p.m.

A Free Art Walk shuttle called "The Hippodrome," runs 6-10 p.m. and moves visitors around the Gallery Row portion of the Downtown Art Walk. Pickups and stops are available on demand -- just wave to the vehicle to stop or alert the driver to exit. The shuttle is a vintage retrofitted 1940s school bus, and is hosted by Kim Cooper and Richard Schave of Esotouric, who curate it as moving performance venues.

5). SUBMIT YOUR NEWS

We welcome your contributions to the WAHA E-News and West Adams Heritage Association's monthly publication, "West Adams Matters." Please understand that we do have deadlines. Material for the print newsletter should be submitted no later than the 1st of the prior month (i.e.: April 1 for the May issue). If your event is scheduled for early in a month, we suggest you request coverage for the prior month (i.e.: May issue for a June 3 event), because it's entirely possible that not all of our members will have received their newsletter by then (we do try hard.) We reserve the right to edit submitted material. For the WAHA E-News, we prefer to only send it out once or twice a month. Please don't wait until two days before an event to let us know about it. It may not be sent out.

EXCEPTION
If you suddenly hear of an important city hearing or other public meeting that is important to West Adams, we will endeavor to send out a special bulletin.

Submit your material to Laura Meyers, editor, lauramink@aol.com.
