The Restoration of the Landmark Soriano/Lukens Home
3425 West 27th Street
Jefferson Park
This is a WAHA Members-only event. Non-members are welcome to become WAHA members ($45 regular, $25 Senior/Student) on the day of the event in order to view first-hand the incredible restoration of this landmark structure (HCM 866) by the renowned Modernist architect Raphael Soriano. Designed in 1939 as the home and studio of noted mid-century ceramicist Glenn Lukens, this home was abandoned and destined for the wrecking ball. Celebratory mimosa's and champagne will be served outdoors in the extensive multi-terraced gardens along with light fare and other beverages. Tours of the home are scheduled from 11:00 until 12:15, followed by speakers Michael Chapman (owner/rescuer) and architect Barry Milofsky who will discuss the Lukens Home's road from ruin to restoration. There will also be the presentation of WAHA's Annual Martin Eli Weil Historic Preservation Award.
